Effects and processes with ayahuasca

What happens when you drink ayahuasca is still a mystery and a question to many people. Many studies have already been made into a great part of its history, but which nevertheless give no insight into it’s effects or transformational process. Ayahuasca has different effect on different people, although it takes a more or less progressive path that can be followed and mapped. It includes cathartic and abreactive processes. Time is a very important factor in this progression. Every experience has its own patterns and degrees of understanding according to the number of previous experiences and level of consciousness of the participant.
Ayahuasca is not a substance that can be defined as a constant concerning its effect. Unlike other substances, it cannot be predicted. The places in the mind to be visited cannot be programmed,although the journey can be directed, as it does not work through an unique structure. The pharmacological properties of the psychoactive compound in interaction with the biological antecedents are not enough to define the influence on the psyche. The compound will always interact with the psychological set of each individual (motivation, attitude, personality, mood, previous experiences) and the structure of the setting. The equation of those structures will be the result which influences the effect and the kind of journey to be experienced. The substance changes its effect on the brain according to the outside influence of the setting, even more than the actual emotional state of the participant. A person who takes it alone, for example, will have a totally different experience than a person or a group who is undergoing the experience with some one who can direct the energy created by the ayahuasca, enhancing its effects and shaping the journeys toward a mystical experience, in order to reach the place in the mind where God resides, which is the source for transformation.
Different effects have been noticed according to different settings and rituals.
The first stage of the effect is the change of modality of the senses. The hearing becomes very accentuated and the feelings start to expand. It takes about an hour and a half. From here the journey can take any direction. Entering other dimensions, a sense of being suspended in the air may occur as many times we leave the plane of the physical body. Visions may start to happen and can take any proportion, according to the inner and outer influences.

"After I drank the second dose of ayahuasca, I was taken by the life music, that was performed by the group during the ritual, to a dimension where I could see the whole molecular structure of the energy field of the universe. I entered a world where the inhabitants looked halfway between very fine animal shapes and creatures from outer space. They had incredible outfits, and stood on a field in the open air. The entities of darkness wore beautiful black capes and golden weapons. They had pointed hats with dark shining colored feathers, and golden and silver lace draped on them. They were all sparkling metallic and made of an energy consistence. The entities of light, of all shapes and sizes, wearing very elaborated garments, emanating light and rainbow sparkles, engaged in a battle for harmony.

The visions of those beautiful demons started to dissipate as the journey went on, and the passages through those crystallized energies, started to open up to other landscapes. I came to a crystal-clear pale blue environment, still seen through the molecular structure and changing patterns, which often, with the movement of energy, looked like elaborated spider’s webs or elaborate mandalas that occupied the whole space as though seeing them through a hologram. There, I came into contact with higher levels of consciousness. The entities were beams of pure light, moving through a spectrum of crystal clear energy. The imprints from materialization were less defined there, and all the movements of energy left an echo of light and sparkling fairy dust in the air. The music was soft and I had the impression that I entered the celestial court. There was a feeling of being suspended in the air without gravity, floating in this ocean of energies, in the most diverse patterns, colors and light, experiencing the higher octave vibrations of being, totally immersed in the light, and integrated into this dimension. A shower of love nourished my heart and I felt like being touched with white feathers by the astral."
